Who Qualifies for the $30 Texas LTC Course Discount?
Our $30 online Texas LTC class discount is available to:
- Active duty military members
- Veterans
- Military spouses
- Military family members
- Veteran family members
No proof of service is required to receive the Texas Carry Academy LTC course discount.
What Is Included in the Online Texas LTC Class?
The Texas Carry Academy online LTC class allows students to complete the required online Texas License to Carry class from home, on their schedule.
The online course is designed to be simple, clear, and easy to complete from a phone, tablet, or computer.
Once the online class is completed, students instantly receive their LTC-104 certificate, which is the handgun training certificate required by DPS to apply for your Texas license to carry.
Military and Veteran Shooting Portion Exemption
Active duty military members and honorably discharged veterans may be able to use military range scores or proof of firearm training or proficiency from their service within the preceding 10 years in place of the handgun proficiency demonstration. Any firearm qualifies for that military training or proficiency documentation.
If you are active duty military or a veteran and you have qualifying military firearms familiarization training, range scores, or proof of firearm proficiency dated within the past 10 years, you are exempt from the shooting portion of the Texas LTC process.
That means all you have to do is complete the online Texas LTC class and submit your online application with DPS for your LTC.
Important: The Course Discount and DPS Requirements Are Separate
The Texas Carry Academy $30 course discount does not require proof of service.
However, if you are claiming a military or veteran exemption through Texas DPS, DPS may require supporting documentation. DPS lists different document requirements for active military members and veterans under its special conditions page. For example, DPS lists military ID, LES, orders, command letters, DD-214 documents, or other qualifying veteran documentation depending on the applicant’s status.
That means:
- No proof is required for the Texas Carry Academy $30 course discount.
- Proof may be required if you are claiming the military/veteran license fee discount or shooting exemption with DPS.
- DPS State license fees for veterans is $25 and $0 for active duty military. DPS will require proof of service to recieve these state license fee discounts.
What If You Do Not Have Military Shooting Scores?
No problem.
If you are active duty military or a veteran but do not have qualifying documentation from the past 10 years, you can still take our discounted course. The course will connect you to a certified LTC instructor in your area to complete the shooting portion.
