How To Apply For A Texas License To Carry

It’s easy to apply for a Texas license to carry. We do recommend that you take the LTC class before applying for your license but you can apply anytime. The application process is also covered in the class. Follow the steps below to make sure you complete everything that’s required.

License To Carry Application

Before you start the application process make sure you have the information below, it will save you time and make submitting your LTC application easier.

Information needed:

  • DL or ID number
  • Previous 5 years of residential history
  • Previous 5 years of employments history
  • Criminal arrest record (if arrested)
  • Credit or debit card

Step One:

Submit your online application HERE. Select the “apply” button under new users. Make sure you enter in all the information it asks for. When entering the 5 year residential and employment history it does not allow any gaps in the dates, make sure you do what you have to so there are no gaps.

After you submit your online application you will receive an email with a detailed checklist and instructions on how to schedule your fingerprint appointment.

Step Two:

Schedule your fingerprint appointment HERE. Use service code 119Q91. If you have problems scheduling them online you can do so by phone. Call 1-888-467-2080. Make sure you have the service code.

They will submit your fingerprints to DPS, you do not need to send anything from your fingerprint appointment.

Step Three:

Upload the required documents HERE. This can actually be done immediately after you submit your online application too. You do not need to get fingerprints before uploading documents.

After you have completed all the steps in the application process, DPS has 60 days to issue your Texas license to carry. Most are issued sooner but it can take up to 60 days.
